Metastatic splenic tumour
Alina in everyday life
We can never know who comes into our lives, or with what task…. Alina had a special task, for she could not have left a deeper mark on my life and my destiny. She was the one who, in autumn 2020, came with me on that dog-walking date which turned into a truly special love. We walked around Vajdahunyad Castle on that cold but beautiful autumn day. That walk then turned into many wonderful outings, and you always came along with us as one of our best-behaved dogs. Alina, the water lover and wild duck hunter. You were the one who nearly dragged me into the lake when you set off after a duck. We still talk about it to this day whenever we go there.
But I can’t leave out the many sleepless nights either, when we looked after your puppies together and you always fell asleep in my lap while your little ones were feeding.
You became a wonderful mum, and our puppy-raising days truly bonded us. Incredibly, over the years you became the mother of 19 proud Bernese bears, and among the puppies’ owners we also found precious friends.
Your “J” litter was born on my very birthday – that, too, is memorable and perhaps never to be repeated.
We ran together in the ring at nearly 60 dog shows and travelled to many places across Europe. Perhaps the most memorable was Zagreb, when you became Best of Breed from the Junior class. But being in the TOP 8 in the final cut at the World Dog Show in Leipzig was a wonderful experience too. And your 2nd place in the Junior class at the Czech club show was also an incredible experience.
The years together flew by, because they were full of adventures and experiences. You were never sickly, so we always said that you would be with us for a long time, and this year we were already planning your veteran class shows and new adventures together.
But out of nowhere, the diagnosis of a splenic tumour (with metastases to the liver and lungs) struck us all like a bolt from the blue and shattered these plans. Not even a week had passed since your first day of seeming a little weaker, and now you can no longer wait for your dinner, lifting your paws one after the other, and then race at the speed of light to your usual spot.
For our last big walk together we took you to the same place where you had come with me on that fateful date. We were where I was proposed to last year… back then I was moved, and now my tears were falling as I sat there on the steps with you……for the last time….
Thank you for everything, Alina! You were a Bernese who was quite literally there at the turning points of my life… we loved you very much and we always will. No one can ever take away the memories we shared, which began at Antalhegy…
